Engineered for the lowest cost per delivered kWhHow we measure it

Energy independence, engineered, installed and financed.

AMPROTEQ develops utility and industrial-scale battery energy storage for South African industry — containerised systems from a 10 ft 1 MWh block to 6.25 MWh, integrated with solar generation, medium-voltage conversion and the Solaris™ energy management system. Buy the plant outright; a PPA is considered case by case, subject to financial due diligence.

The number that decides the project

Engineered for the lowest cost per delivered kilowatt-hour.

Levelised cost of storage is every rand the system will ever cost, divided by every kilowatt-hour it will ever deliver. We attack both sides of that fraction: Tier‑1 cells integrated before dispatch, inside a liquid-cooled block that keeps delivering long after an air-cooled one has faded.

We publish the method, not a league table: every proposal states its LCOS with the inputs listed, so any offer can be compared on the same basis.

LCOS =
Lifetime cost↓ driven down
Lifetime energy delivered↑ driven up
01

Tier‑1 cells, nothing less

314 Ah LFP prismatic cells from a Tier‑1 manufacturer — serialised, traceable and tested before they leave the line.

02

More cycles from every cell

Liquid cooling holds the pack within 3 °C, so the cells age slowly and age together. More delivered energy from the same capital.

03

Fewer parts to buy

PCS, cooling and fire suppression are inside the container. One slab, one connection, one warranty.

04

Finance, case by case

Where a project passes financial due diligence, a PPA can be structured so you pay for the energy rather than the plant. Each one is assessed case by case.

01 · The Problem

Electricity stopped
being a fixed cost.

Between 2007/08 and 2025/26 Eskom’s average tariff rose from 19.9 to 211.9 c/kWh — up 966 % — while consumer prices rose 157 %. NERSA has already approved a further 8.76 % from April 2026 and 8.83 % from April 2027. For a large power user that is a balance-sheet problem, and it compounds every April.

Storage is what turns an exposed, escalating tariff into a known cost of energy. It moves consumption out of the expensive part of the day, holds your notified maximum demand down, keeps the solar you would otherwise export for a fraction of the import price, and keeps the plant running when the network cannot.

Renewable generation is now the cheapest energy South African industry can buy. Storage is what makes it dispatchable, bankable and finally fixed.

02 · What We Deliver

Three parts,
one integrated plant.

We are a developer, not a reseller. We size the system against your measured load, specify it against your site conditions, and stand behind the performance for the life of the agreement.

01 — Storage & Generation

Containerised BESS

Six liquid-cooled LFP systems from 1 MWh to 6.25 MWh, each available at 2, 4 or 6 hour duration, with matched power conversion from 500 kW to 3 125 kW. Paired with bifacial PV, medium-voltage conversion and a grid interface built to South African code.

02 — Control

Solaris™ EMS

The energy management system decides, every few seconds, whether the site draws from solar, the battery, the grid or the generator — against your tariff calendar, your notified maximum demand and your state of charge. It is where the savings are actually made.

03 — Commercial

Purchase, hybrid or PPA

Most plants are bought outright, often with bank finance. A PPA, where the plant is funded for you and you pay for the energy, is considered case by case and is subject to financial due diligence.

From a cell to the grid

Eight steps.
One power path.

Every plant starts as a single 314 Ah cell and ends at the point of connection. Follow the whole path on the battery storage page.

01 · Assess

Start with the meter.

Twelve months of interval data, your tariff schedule and your notified maximum demand. We model the site as it actually behaves — not as a nameplate suggests it should.

02 · Design

Size it against the load.

PV array, storage capacity, conversion and medium-voltage interface are sized together against the measured profile and the tariff calendar, then modelled over 25 years of escalation.

03 · Integrate

Integrated indoors, not on your slab.

Racks, power conversion, switchgear, liquid cooling and fire systems are assembled and cabled into the container at the factory, then powered up and burned in before anything ships. Nothing arrives on your slab as a kit of parts.

04 · Commission

Witnessed, then energised.

Factory acceptance testing against your protection settings and grid-code requirements, then installation, commissioning and grid compliance sign-off on site.

05 · Operate

Twenty years of dispatch.

Solaris runs the plant against the tariff calendar and the demand limit. We maintain it, monitor cell-level health and carry the performance obligation for the term. How we deliver →

04 · What It Earns

Five ways the same
megawatt-hour pays.

A well-sized system earns from several places at once, every single day. We model each of these against your actual interval data and tariff before you commit a rand — so the payback in the proposal is the payback you get.

* Illustrative 2026/27 values for a large-power-user site; every proposal is priced on the site’s own tariff and fuel records. Peak windows: Eskom Megaflex and Miniflex, 2026/27.

Modelled at R3.50/kWh offtake with 9% annual escalation (NERSA approved 8.76% for 2026/27 and 8.83% for 2027/28), 8% WACC, 12% system losses and a 5 kWh/kWp solar yield factor. Indicative — every site is modelled against its own interval data.

05 · What It Saves

Put your own
numbers in it.

Move the three sliders to your site for a first-order answer. For a model built from your actual bill and tariff, month by month, open the Savings Studio — it reads the bill in your browser and never uploads it.

Assumptions: a peak-to-off-peak spread of R1.85/kWh on a large-power-user time-of-use tariff, 88% AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency, and one full cycle per working day. Excludes the demand-charge reduction and any solar self-consumption, both of which usually improve the answer.

This is an estimator, not a quote. A real number comes from your half-hourly meter data, your notified maximum demand, your tariff structure and your site constraints — which is exactly what a load study produces, at no cost and with no obligation.

06 · How You Buy It

Own it outright, or ask about a PPA.

01 · Power Purchase Agreement

Case by case, after due diligence.

Where a project passes financial due diligence on the site and the offtaker, the plant can be funded, owned and maintained for you under a long-term agreement, and you buy the kilowatt-hours at an agreed rate. Term and escalation are set case by case. Terms beyond the battery’s 20-year design life include planned augmentation, priced in from day one.

  • Subject to due diligence
  • Fixed escalation
  • Maintenance included
  • Term set per project
02 · Outright Purchase

The plant on your balance sheet.

Buy the microgrid, or any component of it — BESS, PCS, medium-voltage skid or the Solaris controller — as a supplied and commissioned asset. We can arrange standardised financing with commercial banks for well-defined system configurations, and carry the O&M under a separate maintenance agreement.

  • Asset ownership
  • Bank financing arranged
  • Optional O&M
03 · Hybrid

Co-invest where it suits you.

Own the portion that fits your capital plan — often the solar array — and take the storage and control layer under a PPA where the project qualifies. Terms are structured around how you want the asset, the risk and the escalation split.

  • Split ownership
  • Shared risk
  • Tailored escalation
07 · Who We Serve

Utility and industrial scale.

Sites where energy is a material line item and interruption has a cost measured in production, not inconvenience.

08 · Why AMPROTEQ

Engineered for
South African sites.

South African sites ask more of a battery than a test bench does — coastal corrosion, 40 °C ambients, dust, unstable networks and a grid code that does not look like Europe’s. Every system we deliver is specified against those conditions, engineered to South African grid code and supported by people who can be on your site.

01

C5 corrosion class

Enclosures specified to ISO 12944 class C5 — suitable for coastal KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape sites as well as inland industrial atmospheres.

02

−30 to +55 °C

The operating range of the 20 ft systems (A1000: −25 to +60 °C). Liquid cooling holds cell temperature deviation to 3 °C through a Highveld summer, protecting the warranty position the financial model depends on.

03

Grid-code compliant

South African RPP grid-code capability at medium voltage and NRS 097-2-1 at low voltage, with protection settings proven against your utility’s requirements before dispatch.

04

Local support

Commissioning, maintenance and spares handled from Gauteng with our service partners, by engineers who can be on your site.

09 · Next Step

Send us twelve months
of interval data.

That, your tariff schedule and your notified maximum demand is enough for a first sizing and an indicative capex — within five working days, at no cost and with no obligation.
